At present, Tele-Education classes are being run in 250 schools across the state in 26 districts. In 2018, the classes were conducted for Standard 9 and 10 during the regular school hours. In 2019, however, Tele-Education classes are now being conducted for standard 6 through 10, covering three subjects: Mathematics, English, and Science. These classes are conducted from 9:15 am to 2:10 pm, and are accommodated in the regular school timetable.
The classes are telecast from a studio situated at Rashtriya Madhyamik Sikhsha Abhijan, Guwahati. Adjacent to it is an Educator Room where a group of three expert teachers will be present to answer the queries of the students. If the educator feels that a question is very important and the rest of the students in other schools should also know about it, then the educator can transfer the call to the studio Subject Matter Expert and he/she can answer the query.
The calls can be made through:
- Internet call
- Phone call
- Missed call
Each class is conducted for 40 minutes and in every 10-15 minutes the students are asked to answer an MCQ related to the concept that was taught just before that. They can answer with the help of a clicker device. This enables real-time monitoring based on the feedback (number of answers) received from students.
The content is mapped according to the Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) curriculum by subject experts. Each content goes through multiple verification and quality control process before it is delivered in the class. The steps are:
- Preliminary preparation
- Discussion with expert educationist
- Script construction
- Script verification by experts
- Animation/ multimedia creation
- Animation/ multimedia verification
- Translation and its verification
- Addition of teacher text and demonstration
- Session delivery
Due to the ongoing Tele-Education classes, students and teachers are benefitted to a large extent. With the help of animated content, the concepts are delivered in an interesting manner, which also enables them to concentrate more.
Also, since the doubts are also addressed right after the session, the students are encouraged to ask queries. These initiatives will not only result in improved performance of the students in the examination, but also increases the enrollment of the students in the Government schools due to the improved facilities.
