A key subject in school, mathematics is essential for the growth of analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and logical reasoning. But a lot of students face serious difficulties when learning mathematics, which can cause dissatisfaction and insecurity. Teachers and students can both build methods to overcome these challenges by having a better understanding of the causes of them. Arithmetic anxiety, a tense and frightening mood that impairs arithmetic ability, is a common occurrence among students. Memorizing formulas and procedures is not the only thing involved in mathematics. It calls for analytical reasoning and problem-solving abilities. Applying mathematical ideas to many contexts is a skill that students must acquire; this can be a challenging process.
Aspects of mathematics that students often find difficult:
- Abstract Concepts
- Problem-Solving Techniques
- Precision and Accuracy
- Cumulative Learning
- Symbolic Manipulation
- Logical Reasoning
- Mathematical Anxiety and Confidence
Recognizing these challenges, on 03/08/2024 we had the extraordinary privilege of conducting a mathematics session in Assam Tele-Education School hosted by the esteemed Master Ananda Bhaduri. Renowned for his profound knowledge and innovative teaching methods, Master Bhaduri’s session was an eye-opener for all students. He is one of the proud members of the Indian team who won the gold medal at the 65th edition of the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in the United Kingdom conducted recently in July 2024. His simple yet powerful message resonates deeply:
“Don’t memorize, try to understand what you are doing.”
